We are happy to invite you to our forthcoming open studio & artist talk with current artist-in-residence HyunJoo Park 박현주"This Open Studio draws inspiration from my experience at the Læsø AIR. Læsø Island has a flat terrain with no high mountains. Since I was born in Seoul, a major city in Korea, and grew up surrounded by mountainous landscapes, my experience on Læsø has had a profound impact on my work and life. In the big city, I lived a hectic life, constantly striving to climb higher without knowing where "I" was or where I was headed. On Læsø, however, my sense of where I am, becomes clearer, allowing me to experience life without the same sense of haste. The work is completed through a performance in which I walk across the painting while singing. The song expresses my attitude toward life—a desire to become a low hill rather than a high mountain. Through the performance, I move across the landscape I have created, aware of my own position and roaming freely through nature." - Hyunjoo Park Hyunjoo Park (b. 1998) is an artist whose work focuses on nature and the environment, especially using water as a main material.
She investigates how the natural environment around her shapes ways of thinking and everyday life. In her practice, she allows nature to remain as it is and carefully observes its traces through experiments with natural elements, such as extracting color by boiling red cabbage and fallen leaves. She is drawn to what is non-artificial and seeks to learn an approach to life through it. Her work is based on painting and also expands into installation and sculpture. Recently, she has been drawn to the humility of water, which flows toward the lowest place, and expresses this through painting, which she considers the humblest form of artistic practice. The artist talk will be moderated by our artistic director Malou Solfjeld.
